Sindh Food Authority (SFA) recently raided a popular seafood restaurant in Karachi, namely Yadgar Fish. It came under limelight for an unhygienic kitchen, unacceptable working conditions and unhealthy fish. To improve the restaurant standard, the restaurant was initially given the notice, however no measures were taken to avoid the future consequences.
When situation was not improved, SFA raid second time to expose the worse conditions of the storeroom and kitchen in Yadgar Fish.
One of the TV channels “Abb Takk” also covered the entire story with Sana Faisal and talked to the Deputy Director Mr. Mazhar, who admitted that despite sending a notice and complaints from the consumers, they failed to improve the food standard and working conditions.
Everything, from the conditions of the freezers to the cooking utensils, containers and the fish which customers order were shocking. Even, the restaurant didn’t take any measures to avoid flies and bugs in the dishes with chutney and were recovered from the bathrooms; the fish meat was also infected with black spots.
Not only this, an open sewage hole was also found with utensils used to serve and cook with cockroach eggs. Fungus-infected bread slices used to make breadcrumbs were also recovered during the raid.
The SFA officials recovered such meat which was infectious to consume because of high traces of ammonia that hits directly at human’s nervous system.
As the owner admitted the negligence, Yadgar Fish was fined for Rs 15,000. However, they still continue with the present conditions, the eatery will be sealed completely.
