Chicken Biryani Recipe – Delicious Asian Dish!

Rice Recipe


  • 1 1/2 kg  whole chicken, skin removed and cut into pieces
  • 4 cups uncooked basmati rice
  • 2 quarts water
  • 2 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 small green chile peppers
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 3 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp garam masala
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 pods green cardamom
  • 1 pod black cardamom
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp powdered yellow food coloring
  • 1 tsp kewra water
  • 1 tbsp dried mint
  • salt and pepper to taste


Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion in the skillet and cook until translucent brown. Add garlic, ginger paste, green chilli peppers and tomatoes. Keep stirring until tomatoes are tender. Add garam masala, salt, pepper, mint and mix in the coriander. Now add the chicken in the skillet and stir coating it with all the masala. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for 45 mins and keep stirring occasionally, until chicken leaves its water. Mix the yogurt and keep cooking the chicken until tender. Boil water and add rice to the water and boil it in a large pot. Mix in the green cardamom, black cardamom, bay leaf and cinnamon. Add salt to taste cover and cook for 15 mins. Strain rice along with the whole spices in a strainer when rice is half done. In a separate pot, layer the rice then chicken mixture then cover with rice on top. Sprinkle with the food coloring mixed in kewra water and mix to serve.
