Pakistan is a hub of divine food and a nation of foodies. Anybody who has ever visited would agree our food makes the tourists drool they find it a bit spicy but that’s how we like it. I can proudly say that Pakistan is home to all sorts of delicacies, enjoyed by people from around the country.
There is a huge variety of must-have Pakistani dishes from all across the country, but if I were to choose only one best from some of the diverse regions, it would short list to 9 best dishes that every Pakistani must try!
1. Karachi Ke Bun Kabab
Have you ever tried the famous ‘Bun Kabab’s from Burns Road? The fresh buns stuffed with soft delicious kebabs and tons of their special green spicy chatni along with crispy onions are a treat for taste buds and perfect for a quick snack. YUMM!
2. Chicken Karahi from Islamabad
Karahi is served across the country and you will find it in numerous hotel big or small. But let me tell you one thing for sure Islamabad’s Karahi is unbeatable! This is a dish cooked in almost every house, but the taste we find at Islamabad is no where else to be found.
3. Tikka Karahi from Peshawar
Karahi is undoubtly the most selling dish when you visit the northern areas in Pakistan. How about a combination of Tikka and Karahi? I’m not kidding. This amazing combination includes the taste of tikka and Karahi blended together.
The recipe differs from place to place, the most authentic recipe is the one in which the chicken is marinated in Tikka masala and spices then cooked in tomatoes along with Karahi spices and other spices.
4. Multani Chaanpain
If you are a foodie at heart and love desi food this is another place in Punjab to rave about. You must try the very spicy Chaamps from Multan! This dish is served with special Multani spices which gives it an tempting aroma and flavor.
5. Lahori Paaye
Who hasn’t heard of the famous food street in Lahore? It should be your go to place when visiting Lahore to have the real taste of Pakistan.“Paaye“ are to die for. The eateries which serve paye have them cooked as early as the morning prayer and they are completely sold out within 2 hours of the restaurant opening. Even though there are a number of places that offer the Lahori famous ‘Siri Paye’, but if we were to name one, it would, without any doubt, be 2 places. The famous ‘Phajjay ke Siri Paaye’ and “Haneef k Siri paye at Safa wala chawk” are food stops enjoyed by all from breakfast to dinner.
6. Chappali Kabab from Khyber Pukhtunkhuwa
Who hasn’t heard of the famous Chapli Kabab or Chappal Kabab of Peshawar? This amazing dish is prepared with mince beef, salt and pepper, onions, green chillies, coriander and tomatoes, pomegranate and cumin seeds, lemon juice, eggs and cornstarch.
The kebab is then shaped in a flat patty and cooked in animal fat. This is usually served with roti or Naan.
7. Gushtaba And Rice from Kashmir
This is a Kashmiri Dish contains large meatballs which are cooked with saffron yoghurt gravy and served with white rice.
8. Sindhi Biryani
When it comes to eating biryani Sindhi Biryani is one of the favorite dishes, not only for the people of Sindh but for all of Pakistan. Whether we are celebrating or we are mourning biryani is served as dinner or lunch. This mouth-watering taste of the Sindhi Biryani has no comparison. This dish is served with an appetizing salad and raita.
9. Khada Gosht of Quetta
Food lovers in Pakistan find this food item indulgent and a great delight for their taste buds. A whole goat or lamb is cooked on charcoal fire and is then presented as it is.
It has a remarkable taste and is suitable for cold areas like Quetta. The fat content helps in keeping the body warm and metabolism high.
